my favorite things to do as a kid
favorites :
- fishing, with grandma, grandpa, great aunts, great uncles, mom, aunt Carol...so so fun! Absolutely the top fun thing in the summer.
- camping, with mom, grandma, grandpa, aunts, uncles - most of the time at Palisades or Alpine.
- Island Park - to Uncle Forrest and Aunt Maxines cabin. Really loved it there,so beautiful, so peaceful. Watched bears eat at the garbage pit at night, just to get a look at bears. went on Uncle Forrests boat. Sitting around the campfire - wondering why there was so much drinking around the campfire. getting to sleep above the garage aways away from the main cabin.
- playing pinocole and board games, card games with mom and grandma - laughter, lots of laughter :)
- riding my bike in the summer as far as I wanted and feeling so happy and free on my bike
- drinking cold kool aid after family reunions in our backyard - such a simple thing but so good, having crab apple fights with cousins from our neighbors tree
- swinging in the hammock in the backyard, watching cars go by and seeing some of those people we were related to - the family lived close to each other, I mean a couple blocks away. Rexburg seemed like a very long drive to see the cousins, uncle Stan and aunt Carol
- being at home where all felt fairly right with the world, safety, routine, never much of a surprise. good food all the time, visitors coming over about every day, life that you could count on...
- walking home from elementary school for lunch when the garden was starting to produce - creamed peas and potatoes...yum :)
- guarantee we could start watching TV at 4:00 - never before that time. our little family unit watching programs in the evenings until bedtime. watching the Price is Right with grandma. sitting on her lap, getting my back scratched, being rocked in her rocking chair. Her telling me I was very wiggly and like a cat with the back scratching. then going to the cookie place in the kitchen to have a few -
